Claude Motion, Explained

Anthropic's new feature writes animation as code and exports it as MP4. It launched October 8, 2026 — and most individual subscribers cannot open it yet.

As of: October 10, 2026. Claude Motion launched in beta on October 8, 2026, alongside Claude Dashboards. Claude Motion is available on Team and Enterprise plans and not on Free, Pro and Max. This guide is unofficial and not affiliated with Anthropic.

What Claude Motion actually does

Claude Motion takes something you already have — a quarterly report, a chart, a set of screenshots, a pricing table — and turns it into a short animation that plays like a video. You describe what you want, Claude Motion builds it, you adjust it, and you download an MP4.

The part that makes Claude Motion different from every AI video tool you have seen is how it gets there. There is no video model inside Claude Motion. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images, frame by frame. That is a limitation — Claude Motion cannot film anything — and also its main advantage, because every word, number and timing in a Claude Motion animation stays editable after the fact.

It writes code, not video

Claude builds each animation as code that moves the text, charts, shapes and images you give it. Anthropic does not use a video generation model here, so it plays like a short video without any generated footage.

No realistic footage, no people

Because nothing is generated, Claude Motion cannot produce a filmed scene or a synthetic presenter. It animates your material — a report, a chart, a screenshot, a logo — and nothing else.

One number changes, the rest stays

Ask it to change the Q3 figure to 18% and only that figure changes. Timing, layout and every other scene stay where they were, which is the practical advantage of an animation that is really a program.

MP4 out, seven editors onward

Export is MP4. You can also open an animation in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway to keep working, with Canva and Captions listed as coming soon.

Team and Enterprise only

The pricing page lists Claude Motion as No for Free, Pro and Max. It is on by default for Team and off by default for Enterprise, where an owner has to switch it on.

Counts against usage, no extra fee

There is no per-animation price. It draws on your plan's normal allowance, and Anthropic warns that longer or more complex animations use more of it than a typical message.

What people make with Claude Motion

Anthropic's own examples are deliberately unglamorous, and that tells you who Claude Motion is for. These are the videos that sit in a backlog for weeks because nobody on the team has After Effects or the time to learn it.

Quarterly report → all-hands explainer

"Turn this quarterly report into a 30-second explainer for our all-hands."

Animated chart for a board deck

"Add motion to this revenue chart so each quarter builds in one at a time for the board deck."

Onboarding walkthrough

"Make a product walkthrough for new customers that shows the three setup steps in order."

Pricing comparison

"Animate our three pricing tiers so the differences appear one row at a time."

Notice what is missing: product hero shots, talking presenters, cinematic B-roll. Claude Motion does not do those and is not trying to. If you need generated footage, you need a video model. If you need your own numbers to move clearly on screen, Claude Motion is aimed squarely at you.

Who can use Claude Motion — and who can't

This is the detail most launch coverage buried. Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only. On Team it is switched on by default. On Enterprise it is off until an organisation owner enables it. Free, Pro and both Max tiers do not have Claude Motion at all — the pricing page lists it as No in every individual column.

That means most people reading about Claude Motion cannot open it. If that is you, you are not out of options. Developers were building Claude Motion style videos with Claude Code, Remotion and HyperFrames before the feature existed, and Pro and Max can already produce a self-playing animated artifact that looks very close. The alternatives page walks through each route honestly, including what you give up.

Where Claude Motion output goes next

An MP4 is the default exit, but Claude Motion also hands animations to dedicated editors so you can add the things it does not do well on its own — a real voiceover, licensed music, live footage cut in around your animated scenes.

That list is telling. Anthropic is not positioning Claude Motion as a finished video studio. It is positioning Claude Motion as the fastest way to a solid first cut built from your own content, with the polish happening in tools that already do polish well.

Claude Motion basics

What is Claude Motion?
A beta feature in Claude, launched October 8, 2026, that turns your content into short animations — an all-hands explainer, an animated board-deck chart, an onboarding walkthrough — and exports them as MP4. Claude builds each one as code rather than generating video.
Can I use Claude Motion on Pro or Max?
No. The pricing page lists it as not included on Free, Pro or Max. It is available on Team, where it is on by default, and Enterprise, where an owner has to enable it.
Does Claude Motion generate video like Sora or Veo?
No. Anthropic does not use a video generation model for it. It animates the text, charts, shapes and images you provide, so it cannot create filmed footage or realistic people.
How do I start Claude Motion?
Ask for an animation in chat, choose Output then Motion in the message box (or type /motion), or pick a Motion template from the Artifacts tab.
What format does Claude Motion export?
MP4. You can also open the animation in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway to keep editing.
How much does Claude Motion cost?
There is no separate fee. It counts toward your plan's usage. The cheapest plan that includes it is Team, with a two-seat minimum at $25 per seat per month — about $50.
Is this site official?
No. This is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Anthropic. Official documentation lives in the Claude Help Center.
