Why Claude Motion and Dashboards get mixed up
They were announced together on October 8, 2026, in the same post, both labelled beta, both producing visual output from a conversation. Most headlines named them in one breath. Searches for "Claude Motion dashboard" are people trying to work out where one ends and the other begins.
The simplest Claude Motion vs Dashboards distinction: Dashboards answers a question about your data and keeps answering it as the data changes. Claude Motion explains something to an audience and stays fixed once exported. One is a live tool; the other is a finished piece of communication.
The plan difference that matters
Dashboards reaches Pro and Max. Claude Motion does not. That asymmetry is the main reason people land on this page — a Pro subscriber reads about both, finds Dashboards in the app, and cannot find Claude Motion anywhere. Nothing is broken. Claude Motion is simply limited to Team and Enterprise for now.
On Enterprise, both start switched off. An owner turns them on in Organization settings under Artifacts, and can enable one without the other.
Using Claude Motion and Dashboards together
Claude Motion and Dashboards are designed to chain. Ask Dashboards a question, check the SQL behind the chart, decide what the number means — then ask Claude Motion to turn that finding into a 30-second clip for the people who will never open the dashboard. The analysis and the explanation happen in the same conversation, with the same numbers.
That chain is the real pitch of the launch. Investigation and communication have always lived in different tools, owned by different people. Putting both inside Claude means the person who found the insight can also ship the explainer — which is most valuable on teams where nobody owns motion design.
One caution from early reviewers applies to Claude Motion and Dashboards alike: check the work. An auto-built dashboard is only as good as the query underneath, and a Claude Motion animation is only as accurate as the numbers it was given. Verify before anything goes in front of a board.
What else launched the same day
The same announcement took Claude Docs, Slides and Design out of beta and opened them to every plan, Free included. Anthropic said people had already made more than 45 million docs, decks and designs. It also set a date for the standalone Claude Design site at claude.ai/design to close: December 14, 2026. Design systems can be migrated into Claude as artifacts; chats, comments and public project links do not carry over and need saving by hand before then.
Which one to reach for first
If you have a question about your data, start with Dashboards — and on Pro or Max it is the only one of the two you have. If you already know the answer and need other people to understand it, that is a Claude Motion job.
On Team and Enterprise you will often use both in one session. A typical flow: connect the warehouse, ask Dashboards for churn by cohort, inspect the query, spot the cohort that moved, then ask Claude Motion for a 20-second clip showing that change for the weekly leadership update. The numbers in the Claude Motion clip come straight from the dashboard you just checked.
The mistake to avoid is treating Claude Motion as a live view. A Claude Motion export is fixed at the moment you render it. If the underlying data changes, the dashboard updates and the Claude Motion clip does not — regenerate it before reusing it. Label exported clips with the date the numbers were pulled.
And if your audience can open the dashboard themselves, they may not need the Claude Motion clip at all. Claude Motion earns its place with audiences who will never click a link: all-hands meetings, board decks, customers who need a walkthrough rather than a chart.
Claude Motion and Dashboards for different roles
Analysts will live in Dashboards and touch Claude Motion occasionally, when a finding needs to reach people who will not open a chart. Communications, product marketing and customer success teams are the reverse: they rarely need a live query, but they need Claude Motion constantly for explainers, walkthroughs and update clips.
That split is a useful way to decide who gets Team seats. If the people who would use Claude Motion most are not the people who need Dashboards, it is the Claude Motion users whose plan matters — Dashboards is available on Pro and Max, Claude Motion is not.
